A special note of thanks for the Backpack Beds…“Thank you so, so much for the Backpack Beds! They are absolutely great. I manage a Free Store for our church, in a poor section of Oklahoma City. A large portion of my customers are homeless. Many of them lost their tents in the May 20th and May 31st tornadoes. I have helped several individuals with new Backpack Beds thanks to you. Many of my homeless friends have been unable to find work because they are ex-felons or have mental health problems. But they are the first ones to help out in our neighborhood by mowing for the elderly, helping single moms to fix their roofs or building wheel chair ramps. Thanks again. The homeless are real people and they matter just as much as anyone else.”More information...
"…if the shelters are full, as is often the case, turning to the streets - it makes a resource like this incredibly relevant and incredible important as a engagement tool to try to get people into care. The most important use of this (Backpack Bed) would be as a tool that out therapists, case managers and our outreach workers can use, to offer something to someone to further a relationship. I think the Backpack Bed can be a useful engagement tool to get people off the street … we should look at it as a tool to get people into permanent housing. We are very appreciative to use some of these (Backpack Beds) as an outreach and engagement tool" Kevin Lindamood, CEO, HealthCare for the Homeless, Baltimore
"I think it (Backpack Bed) is a perfect outreach tool for teams to use when they are encountering service resistant clients on the street … it would be much better for them to be protected from the elements until we build that relationship and bring them off the street. And in that application I see it as a most compassionate way to provide services and build relationships. I think its the best thing I've ever seen … I think it would be a compassionate solution to what street outreach teams try to do when they go out to build a relationship of trust and compassion."
